The Commissioner of Police
The Current Commissioner of Police is Carl McKay Williams, OD, JP, PhD. He has been the Commissioner since September 14, 2014, Doctor Carl Williams is a 30 years veteran of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, having enlisted in 1983. He climbed steadily through the ranks to reach Deputy Commissioner, having held supervisory and command positions at the station, division, area and portfolio levels. His most recent assignments included Director of the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Task Force (MOCA) and Head of the Crime Portfolio.
As a former Chief of Narcotics, Dr Williams was instrumental in the development of programmes aimed at reducing the supply of illegal drugs in Jamaica, and spearheaded numerous successful initiatives to target domestic and international elements of the trade in narcotics. One of his most recent initiatives was to develop a Task Force to target lottery scamming in Jamaica, which has generated significant success.
Dr Williams holds a PhD in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in Texas, United States of America . He is married to Dr Annmarie Barnes, an Associate Professor of Criminology at York University who also lectures at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in Canada
