Disaster Assistance
What is a Disaster?
Under the Jamaica Constabulary Welfare Fund, Disaster is defined to be any natural catastrophe including but not limited to fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, volcanoes, tornados, causing significant damage (s) to personal property.
Grant Given for Disaster Assistance
A member may be entitled to a maximum $200,000.00 per Disaster
What is required when making an application for disaster?
1. Written Application,which should provide the following information:-
o Nature of the Disaster
o Degree of damage done
o Description of Damaged property
o Where is the property located?
o Who owns the property?
o Are you paying mortgage or Rent on the property?
o Was the property insured?
o Was an official report made to any other agency?
o Was a Report done, by whom?
2. Report from the SP in charge of the Division or from the Investigating officer
3. Report from Fire Department (in case of a fire)
4. Pictorial Evidence of damage, if any
5. Invoice to reflect the costs of items to be replaced
It is important to NOTE:-
1. Financial Grant paid for Disaster Assistance are for the replacement of basic items that the applicant would have lost during the disaster.
2. The maximum payment does not mean an obligation of the FUND to pay the entire sum, it mean that the amount paid cannot exceed the amount paid out to any one member.
3. The application MUST be accompanied by the following:-
1. Personal Address
2. Name, Contact Number and Relationship of Next of Kin
3. Picture Identification with Tax Registration Number (TRN not application where the applicant is using his or her Driver’s License)
4. Email Address or Addresses
5. An Employment Number or Pay Slip, not older than 90 days
